This quote reminds us that children, like flowers, need the right conditions to grow. Rather than viewing the child as the problem or focusing only on changing them, we should look at what can be changed around them to better support their success.
This may mean adjusting the environment, expectations, teaching approach, available supports, or opportunities for learning. It may also mean reconsidering whether what we’re asking of the child is appropriate, meaningful, and necessary in the first place.
This is the lens through which I think we should approach ABA: by considering not only a child’s behavior, but also the environment, expectations, supports, and systems surrounding them - as well as our own behavior.
Behavior does not occur in isolation, and meaningful change often begins by changing the conditions in which it occurs. Sometimes, that also requires us to change our own approach.
That perspective shapes everything I do, from parent training and clinical supervision to developing practical frameworks and tools for clinicians, parents, and children. My goal is not simply to change the child, but to create an environment that supports learning, shapes meaningful behavior, and makes growth and success more possible.
I’m a BCBA and LBA with 9 years of experience in ABA supporting children and families across school and home settings. Throughout my career, I’ve supervised and mentored 26+ staff members across school and home settings and managed 11 clients across agency and private practice.
I’m interested in the gap between behavior science in theory and behavior science in practice. I turn patterns into frameworks, and frameworks into practical tools for more ethical ABA implementation.
My work lives at the intersection of clinical systems, data and everyday behavior. Outside of ABA, I’m usually noticing the same patterns in climbing, dog training, and the way people move through systems.
